Hotel Indigo Dundee
Two Scottish hotels, one of which has undergone major re-development since being managed by Focus Hotels, have been singled out for national praise.
The new Hotel Indigo Dundee has been voted the winner for Scotland in The Sunday Times Top 100 Hotels for the UK. The former mill on Princes Street was relaunched earlier this year after a £23 million renovation by Focus Hotels Management, aimed at celebrating the distinctive personality of the locality.
Another property in the group, Hotel Colessio in Stirling, has been nominated as a wedding venue in the prestigious VOWS – Scotland’s Wedding Industry Awards – following a major transformation after Focus took over management in July.
Chief Executive Peter Cashman was thrilled at the double success. He said: “We are not looking for awards when we make decisions to invest in hotels. Our aim is to provide the best customer experience and add value to the properties.
“Both of these hotels needed a boost to bring them to the attention of the public. It is exciting and flattering that all the hard work by those involved is now being recognised in this way.
“Success in the fast-moving hotel sector takes more than great facilities. It takes in-depth understanding of the business environment, the ability to attract and develop a first-class operational team, robust processes and systems, and the capacity to deliver consistent profitability in an increasingly competitive market. In short the experience and skills in hotel management at the highest level.”
The Sunday Times described Hotel Indigo Dundee as a ‘quirky, cut-price cracker'.
The Judges commented: “It’s littered with witty Dundonian touches: copies of the Beano on the bedside tables are a nod to the publisher DC Thomson, and the ingredients for Dundee cake are written on the bedroom walls.
“There are 102 rooms, and the vibe is industrial chic, with original red-brick ceilings and exposed ventilation pipes and girders. A perfect base for waterfront strolls and visits to the new V&A.”
The Hotel Colessio, which is an iconic venue in Stirling has been shortlisted as a top wedding venue for the region in the VOWS awards, with the winner due to be announced on November 19. This charming boutique hotel in Stirling is a beautiful landmark which has been magnificently transformed to offer unrivalled luxury and facilities.
Focus Hotels operates hotels including independents, such as Sketchley Grange Hotel, Oxford Witney Hotel and Hotel Colessio, and also operates hotels under franchise agreements with DoubleTree by Hilton, Hampton by Hilton, Mercure, ibis Styles, Hotel Indigo and Staybridge Suites.
Focus Hotel Management is a leading independent hospitality management company with a portfolio of 15 hotels open, under development and in planning totalling 1,948 bedrooms.
